Toshiba Tablet Name Leaked As Folio, More Specs Appear

Toshiba’s upcoming tablet has just been named by Italian tech blog Netbook Italia and according to them it is called Folio. Of all the paper and print related names, they had to go for that one. But at least now we have a one word name to call it by. So this Folio is the tablet device that everyone’s expecting to come out later this week at the IFA. That means we will be reading all about it pretty soon.

In the mean time, this is supposed to be a Tegra 2 device (powered by a dual core NVIDIA Tegra 250 graphics chip), running the second generation of the NVIDIA built SoC that was used in the Zune HD from Microsoft. It will be coming with a docking station like multiple other tablets. Connectivity-wise you will get everything that you can possibly ask for — 3G, WiFi (b/g/n) and Bluetooth.

Internal storage is at 16GB and it is running on Android 2.2, which is good news for Android lovers everywhere. After a lot of false starts from other companies, Folio has a good chance of being the first really usable Android tablet device. Toshiba is also one of the biggest companies to make an Android device so far. The others are Samsung and Dell.

The Folio will be featuring a 10.1″ touchscreen (multitouch) display with a resolution of 1024×600 — same as a lot of netbooks of the same display size. It will have a front facing video camera for video calling and both normal and micro USB ports. It will also have an SD card  slot for memory expansion. There’s also an HDMI out for attaching it to an HDTV. The 2260mWh battery is good for only 7 hours of web surfing/video — much less than Apple’s 10 hours. But that is mainly thanks to the custom A4 chip designed by Apple.

No word on pricing yet.
